[Kurzwort aus Information Entertainment] das, die multimediale Vermittlung von Informationen mit hohem Unterhaltungswert. Die Grenzen zum Edutainment sind fließend, der Schwerpunkt liegt hier eher auf dem Vermitteln spezifischer (Fach-)Informationen als auf dem Beibringen spezieller Kenntnisse oder Fähigkeiten. Zum Infotainment gehören z. B. Nachrichtensendungen im Fernsehen, wenn die Inhalte, Formulierungen, Bilder und Kommentare entsprechend aufbereitet und ausgewählt werden, Angebote vieler Online-Portale sowie Online-Lexika oder multimediale Lexika (Infotainment Software), die sich unterhaltsam präsentieren. Den Unterhaltungsaspekt unterstreichen hier häufig Animationen, Sound- und Videoclips. Besonders bei Informationsdienstleistungen auf dem Computersektor hat sich das Infotainment als wichtigste Darstellungsstrategie durchgesetzt, da man meint, nur so genügend Aufmerksamkeit und Lesebereitschaft erzielen zu können.
